CARPADUS – Building community guidelines for the Arctic

The CAPARDUS project aims to support sustainable development in the Arctic by creating clear guidelines, standards, and practical methods for using technology and data. The project brings together scientists, students, Indigenous and local communities, businesses, technology providers, and public authorities.

Through workshops, research schools, and local case studies, participants will share knowledge and identify effectiveways to collect, manage, and use information. The project will also examine how climate change and other social andenvironmental changes are affecting Arctic communities.

The final goal is to develop practical recommendations that support better planning, decision-making, and sustainable economic opportunities in the Arctic.

As the Arctic changes, communities, businesses, and decision-makers need reliable information to plan for the future. CAPARDUS helped develop practical guidelines for collecting, managing, sharing, and using data. These guidelines were created collaboratively, drawing on the experience of researchers, local communities, businesses, and other organizations.

One key outcome of the project was a set of guidelines for using citizen science and community-based monitoring as a means of empowering local Arctic communities.
